Between for two; among for more than two.

Rules

1. between: two people/things — Share the cake between the two of you. 2. among: three or more — Share the sweets among the children. 3. Between can be used for more than two when each pair is involved: a treaty between five nations. 4. Among + plural noun or among + them. 5. between...and: between Delhi and Mumbai.

Explanation

The classic rule: between = two, among = more than two. "Between" also works for clear individual relationships among several items.
