Adverbs

Foundation beginner easy

Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives or other adverbs.

Foundation — The building blocks of English grammar.

Rules

1. Manner: quickly, carefully (how). 2. Time: now, yesterday, soon (when). 3. Place: here, there, everywhere (where). 4. Frequency: always, often, never (how often). 5. Degree: very, quite, almost (how much). 6. Position: frequency adverbs go before the main verb but after "be": He always arrives early; She is always late.

Explanation

Adverbs of manner usually end in -ly. "Hard" is an adverb without -ly; "hardly" means almost not — a classic confusion.
