Foundation beginner easy
The eight word classes that English sentences are built from.
Foundation — The building blocks of English grammar.
1. Noun — names a person, place, thing or idea (cat, Mumbai, freedom). 2. Pronoun — replaces a noun (he, she, it, they). 3. Verb — shows action or state (run, is, think). 4. Adjective — describes a noun (beautiful, tall). 5. Adverb — describes a verb, adjective or another adverb (quickly, very). 6. Preposition — shows relation (in, on, at, with). 7. Conjunction — joins words or clauses (and, but, because). 8. Interjection — expresses emotion (wow, ouch).
Every word in a sentence belongs to one of the eight parts of speech. The same word can act as different parts of speech depending on context, e.g. "book" can be a noun (I read a book) or a verb (I will book a ticket).
