Common Errors intermediate medium
Frequent mistakes with verb forms and choices.
Common Errors — Frequent mistakes Indian learners make.
1. Irregular past forms: went (not "goed"), saw (not "seen" alone), did (not "done" alone). 2. After did/does/do use base verb: I didn't go (not "didn't went"). 3. Third-person -s: He works (not "He work"). 4. Lie vs lay: lie down (no object), lay the book (with object). 5. Rise vs raise: rise (no object), raise (with object). 6. Borrow vs lend: I borrowed a book from him; He lent me a book. 7. State verbs no continuous: I know (not "am knowing"). 8. Prefer "used to" for past habits: I used to play cricket.
Most verb errors come from irregular forms and from direct translation of Hindi. Practise the past forms of common irregular verbs as vocabulary.
