Subject and object complements complete the meaning of the sentence.

Rules

1. Subject complement after linking verbs (be, seem, become): She is a teacher; He seems happy. 2. Object complement after verbs like make, call, find: They made him captain. 3. Complements describe or rename the subject/object; objects receive action.

Explanation

Do not confuse a complement with an object: after linking verbs use adjectives — "The soup tastes good", not "tastes well" (well = adverb).
