Sentences are classified by function: statement, question, command, exclamation.
Sentence Structure — How sentences are built and transformed.
1. Declarative (statement): I like tea. — ends with a full stop. 2. Interrogative (question): Do you like tea? — ends with "?". 3. Imperative (command/request): Please sit down. 4. Exclamatory: What a beautiful day! — ends with "!". 5. Optative (wish): May you live long!
Each sentence type has a distinct punctuation and word order. Imperatives often have an understood subject "you".
