Finite verbs show tense and agree with the subject; non-finite verbs do not.
Verbs — Verb forms, modals and non-finite verbs.
1. Finite verb: shows tense and agrees with subject — She writes; They write. 2. Non-finite forms: infinitive (to write), gerund (writing), participles (writing, written). 3. A sentence needs at least one finite verb. 4. Only one finite verb per clause unless joined by a conjunction.
In "I want to go", "want" is finite and "to go" is non-finite. Non-finite verbs never change for person or number.
