Verbs elementary easy
Main verbs carry meaning; helping verbs build tenses and questions.
Verbs — Verb forms, modals and non-finite verbs.
1. Main verbs: run, eat, think, write (full meaning). 2. Helping verbs: be, have, do, will, would, can, could, may, might, shall, should, must. 3. "Be" as helper: is running, was written. 4. "Have" as helper: has gone, had finished. 5. "Do" for negatives/questions in present/past simple: She does not like it; Did you call? 6. Questions move the helper before the subject.
Every verb phrase has a main verb; helpers add tense, mood or voice. "He is writing" — "is" helps, "writing" carries the action.
