Simple Sentences

Sentence Structure elementary easy

A sentence with one independent clause only.

Sentence Structure — How sentences are built and transformed.

Rules

1. One subject + one finite verb. 2. It expresses one complete idea. 3. It cannot be split into two independent clauses. 4. Objects, complements and phrases may be added, but there is only one subject-verb unit.

Explanation

"She sings" and "She sings softly in the morning" are both simple sentences — extra phrases do not change the structure. The moment you add a second finite clause with a coordinator (and/but), it becomes a compound sentence.

हिंदी में
