Rules

1. Time: when, while, before, after, until, as soon as — I will call when I reach. 2. Reason: because, since, as — He stayed because he was tired. 3. Purpose: so that, in order that — She studies so that she can pass. 4. Contrast: although, though, even though, whereas — Although it rained, we went out. 5. Condition: if, unless, provided that — You can go if you finish. 6. Result: so...that, such...that — He was so tired that he slept. 7. No future tense in time/condition clauses: when I come (not "when I will come").

Explanation

Adverb clauses begin with subordinators and answer when/why/how/under what condition. Time and condition clauses take present, not future, after if/when.
