Rules

1. Exact words of the speaker, inside quotation marks. 2. A reporting verb (said, asked) comes before or after. 3. Comma before the opening quote; capital letter at the start of the quote. 4. Example: She said, "I am happy."

Explanation

Direct speech quotes verbatim. Punctuation: She said, "I am happy."

💡 In direct speech we keep the speaker's exact words — Ravi says 'I'.

Q3. Correct the punctuation: 'he said i am going to market'

Answer: He said, 'I am going to market.'

💡 Capitalize 'He', add a comma after 'said', and put the exact words in quotation marks.
