Question Formation

Advanced Grammar elementary medium

Building yes/no and wh- questions.

Advanced Grammar — Voice, narration, clauses and conditionals.

Rules

1. Yes/no with be/have/modals: invert — She is ready → Is she ready? 2. Yes/no in simple tenses: add do/does/did — You like tea → Do you like tea? 3. Wh-questions: Wh-word + auxiliary + subject + verb — Where do you live? 4. Questions about the subject need no auxiliary: Who lives here? (not "Who does live here?") 5. Prepositions move to the end in informal English: What are you looking at?

Explanation

For subject questions (Who/What as the subject) keep normal word order with no do/does/did. For object questions use auxiliary + subject.

हिंदी में

प्रश्न बनाने के लिए auxiliary को कर्ता से पहले रखें। Subject के बारे में पूछने पर auxiliary नहीं लगता — Who lives here?
