Each singles out; every groups all together.
Usage — Common choices, confusions and preposition errors.
1. each + singular noun, focuses on individuals: Each student has a laptop. 2. every + singular noun, focuses on the group as a whole: Every student must attend. 3. Each can be used alone or with "of": each of the students (not "every of"). 4. Every can combine with time words: every day, every week. 5. Both take singular verbs and singular pronouns. 6. "everyone/everybody" takes singular verb: Everyone is here (not "are").
"Each of the boys has a bag" — after "each of", the verb is still singular. "Everyone... they" is common in speech but "everyone... his/her" is formal.
